RESUMPTION DATE AND MODE OF LEARNING
The Senate has set resumption date for next Monday, 17th May, 2021. The mode of learning remains hybrid but there will be more physical lectures. The timetable will be out this Friday so everyone knows where they fall in.
REPORT OF MEETING WITH THE COMMISIONER OF POLICE
The proactive leadership of the Students’ Union, being fully aware of the endemic insecurity challenges in the nation today, paid a visit to the Ogun State Commisioner of Police, CP EDWARD AJOGUN, to discuss various security challenges being faced by Students.
Some of the issues raised included:
- Harassment, Brutality and extortion of students by Law Enforcement Agencies
- Incessant robbery and kidnap cases
- Slow response of the Police to distress calls
4 Unprofessional approach in their mode of operations
- Establishment of a Police-Students Forum for synergy and better results and a host of other Security Challenges.
The CP welcomed everyone and expressed his delight at having a set of intellectual and serious minded individuals at the helm of the Union’s affairs. In response to the salient issues raised, he acknowledged and gave premium regard to all the issues and urged the Union to quickly inform higher authorities once it is noticed that the police are tardy in their response to distress calls or cases of harassment and bribery. He promised to invite the Union and the D.P.O of the Harmony Police Station for a round table discussion on how they can better serve the Students community better.
The Commissioner of Police also stated that the Nigerian Police Force will intensify its efforts in combating crimes and criminalities in our society. He as well urged us all to be security conscious at every point in time.
These were the major issues discussed and the DCP, Head of Operations and ACP were in attendance.
POWER OUTAGE IN OUR HOST COMMUNITIES
Last week Saturday, the Students Union met with the CDA Representatives of ACCORD Community to have a progressive deliberation on the issue of incessant power outage in the said community, different issues were raised while numerous solutions were adopted for necessary action. It was agreed on, that light will be restored before the end of this month and will only be available for hostels that comply with the regulations of the community.
Other Communities were not exempted in the process of restoring electricity.
